PET-FRIENDLY RENTALS MADE EASY

At Prairie Property Management, we know how important pets are—they’re more than just companions; they’re family. That’s why we proudly offer a variety of pet-friendly rental properties across North Dakota and Minnesota, welcoming your furry friends with open arms, ear scratches, and belly rubs.

However, to ensure our communities remain clean, safe, and enjoyable for everyone, we ask all pet owners to follow our guidelines. This includes signing a pet agreement to confirm responsibility for cleaning up after pets and using designated walking areas. Additionally, a monthly pet fee applies, with rates varying by property.

OUR ASSIsTANCE ANIMAL POLICY

At Prairie Property Management, we cherish animals and understand that furry companions are often more than just pets—they’re part of the family. If you’ve been diagnosed with a disability as defined by the Fair Housing Act (FHA) and have been prescribed an assistance animal by a licensed medical professional, we are committed to accommodating your needs.

To address the increasing number of assistance animal requests, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (FHEO) has issued clear guidance. This helps housing providers differentiate between individuals with legitimate needs for assistance animals and those who may not qualify but wish to bypass pet policies or associated costs.

UNDERSTANDING ASSISTANCE ANIMALS VS. PETS

Navigating assistance animal requests can be complex. In fact, over 60% of all FHA complaints involve reasonable accommodation requests. To streamline the approval process, Prairie Property Management has developed an Assistance Animal Verification Form. This form, designed in alignment with HUD guidelines, can be completed by a licensed medical provider.

While you or your provider are not required to use this specific form, doing so helps us respond to your request more efficiently. Each assistance animal accommodation request is evaluated individually to ensure fairness and compliance.

For additional information, we recommend reviewing the FHEO Notice 2020-01 and the “Fact Sheet on HUD’s Assistance Animals Notice.” You can also contact your local HUD office for guidance or reach out to our team for support.
